This week we are joined by Tenge Law Firm with an infographic on avoiding truck accidents and safe driving for work. Check it out below! Fantastic Forum Friday

No truck driver climbs into their cab for the day expecting to get into a car accident, but with 11 million tractor-trailers on the highways around the country it happens. In fact, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration found in 2009 that tractor-trailers and similar trucks were involved in over 280,000 accidents. These accidents result in thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of injuries. When you compare the size of a tractor-trailer with the other vehicles on the road, it isn’t surprising that three quarters of the fatalities were in the passenger vehicle. Every driver plans on being safe while they are driving, so what’s the best way to avoid being in a motor-vehicle accident involving a large truck?

If you are driving a passenger vehicle you need to maintain safe practices when driving near a large truck. Many drivers want to place all of the blame for truck accidents on the driver of the truck, but that is not always the case. Being aware of how trucks operate and the limitations that the drivers have in visibility is key to staying safe when driving near a truck. The images in the infographic break down for you how much distance you should keep between your car and the truck and other areas you want to avoid when driving nearby.

If you are a truck driver, you are already aware of the many rules and regulations that are in your industry. Understanding and following these recommendations or rules will help you avoid being involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle. Maintaining best practices can help keep you and others safe while you are on the road. Following the maintenance recommendations and driving practices included in the infographic will help to keep your big rig running in pique condition.

Both truck drivers and passenger vehicle drivers play a role in avoiding being involved in an accident. If everyone does their part, we can greatly reduce the amount of injuries and fatalities that result from truck accidents every year.
