One of the key pillars of personal wellbeing is the ability to overcome setbacks and challenges. Being able to do this develops our sense of self-belief and our resilience. Resilience is a mental toughness, it is the ability to bounce back from setbacks in our lives as well as the ability to cope with and overcome challenges we face in our lives. One of the key traits that all successful people have is resilience.
A strong belief that comes from within that they have the capacity to overcome obstacles and not only survive setbacks, but also thrive in the face of these challenges.

We all experience setbacks from time to time in our lives, both personally and professionally. Overcoming these allows us to grow and learn as well as developing a belief in our own abilities.

Many of us become stuck in our personal and professional lives because we are afraid of trying new things and failing. Whether it’s a new hobby or a new initiative in work. How many of us are holding on to an idea, not sharing it with anyone because we are afraid that if we try it and it fails we won’t be able to overcome the disappointment or even perceived consequences.
Even more of us become stuck in our daily routines, feeling frustrated and lacking drive and purpose. This can be for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common ones again is a lack of self-belief to overcome setbacks when we take on new challenges.
Very often, these feelings are as a result of our own limiting beliefs. Our internal narrative or the story we tell ourselves, shapes not only our perceptions of the world around us, but also our perceptions of ourselves in the world. More often than not, it is our own limiting beliefs that become our biggest obstacles and prevent us from achieving what we want most.
To achieve anything in our lives we need to be willing to take the inevitable setbacks along the way. Organisations can play a big role in helping employees develop their self-belief by encouraging new ideas and helping employees plan for success in the workplace. Feeling supported helps us explore new ideas, risk setbacks and develop ourselves personally, which in turn benefits the organisation.
